Blog Post #10

For class, it was our turn to teach the class about something. My choice of topic was Mainstream Media. This is a term referring to the various large mass news media that influence many people by reflecting and shaping their thoughts. “Mainstream” things are those that are currently popular with most people. So basically platforms such as NBC, ABC, FOX, etc. Big platforms that are the main source of media for people. The benefits of MSM is that it keeps us connected. If a natural disaster was happening across the country, or even world, we would be notified with the information provided. This platform also spurs businesses and helps get the word out about local places. We are able to spread art and culture and give a voice to the voiceless. News anchors tell us compelling, heartwarming stories, that people don’t have the courage to talk about, or don't have the platform to share. It's amazing what comes out of MSM.

Mainstream media has the ability to affect many aspects of our lives. This form of communication impacts our individual views and beliefs, how we vote and can provide false information that can change a person’s knowledge on a topic. The best way to spread knowledge, information, and news from one part of the world to the other. Mainstream refers to the normal, and common thought of people within the society. It’s what the majority thinks is popular. Mainstream media can be biased depending on which outlet it is coming from, which can also spark the influence of viewpoints. Information can be false and the media becomes vulnerable to lies and hate. With media like this, there are many ways for this information to be shared and reach millions of people.
