Blog Post #11

In class today, we presented different topics and forms of media. Cord-cutting refers to the process of cutting expensive cable connections in order to change to a low-cost tv channel subscription through free broadcast through an antenna or broadcast over the Internet. In other words, getting rid of cable TV and switching over to the world of streaming.

In today’s society, we rarely watch live television. We are able to access these tv shows and broadcasts through live streaming and sites such as Hulu, Netflix, AppleTV, AmazonFire and various others. With busy schedules, it’s hard to sit down at a specific time to watch a program. These platforms allow us to access them at any time we want throughout the day. Cord-cutting is a trend that is effecting the cable industry and becoming widely popular. The news is directed right to our phones so tuning in to Fox at night isn’t a crucial part of your night routine, instead, you can binge-watch all the shows you might have missed.

Cord-cutting can save you money. Cable TV subscribers pay on average $120 a month. Streaming services are as low as $7 and have student price options. This is beneficial to society because they are saving money and are now able to stream from anywhere. This makes catching up on shows and watching movies that much easier and accessible.
